This photo captures my absolute earliest memory as a child. I'm three years old and at a local festival. It is my only memory before kindergarten. I remember playing a game and my older sister peer pressuring me to choose a cassette tape as a prize (which I did, although I had no idea what it was for!).
That's me on the far left, with my two older siblings. Every single detail of this photo, from the curtains, to the toys, to the hats adds to the vividness of this memory for me. It's amazing how many of these toys are now being used by my own children when they get time with grandma and grandpa. I love how this image really makes that continuity hit home for me.
My dad is one of the reasons I really got into photography. He was a photographer for The Red Deer Advocate and as such, was responsible for documenting our family life. I have memories of crawling around on the darkroom floor while he developed his film at work. I don't think I will ever forget the distinct smell of the chemicals involved in the process.
My husband and I have three little ones under the age of 7. What can we say, but it seemed like a good idea at the time! We both came from families with 4 kids so a big family was a no-brainer. Three kids is definitely 'capacity' for us though!
My crew and I, plus my nephew, Halloween 2016. Two dinosaurs , an Elsa and a lion, along with myself dressed as a unicorn. It was my nephew's (the lion) first halloween as he is living in Europe and it's not celebrated there, so it was really awesome to show him what a super fun candy-filled holiday it is! My husband and I both LOVE candy, and I'm dreading the day when my kids catch onto the fact that we are totally emptying out their stash while they are in bed sleeping each night....
My parents, siblings and their partners. This is my mom's favourite picture of us.
We like to have fun, read books and discuss/argue about politics, ethics, religion and everything else considered taboo discussions. We are continually impressed with the fact that we all found someone who is amenable to our flavour of 'weird'. That's me in the bottom right corner!
This image so accurately captures my childhood experience. As child #3 (out of 4), my two older siblings here are deciding how to divy up my first birthday cake and I'm left in the middle patiently waiting to get what is left.
This is me at 3 months. Shortly after I was born my dad got really sick with his Crohn's disease and spent a good chunk of time in hospital. When he came home he had to spend a lot of time in bed recuperating. During this time, as a baby, I basically hung out with him in bed cuddling. My mom thinks that's why I'm such a cuddler to this day.
